Canada’s PNP immigration pathways through Express Entry

Image
\ Under the Immigration Levels Plan 2022-2024, the PNP is the main economic-class immigration program for this year and the next. In previous years, Express Entry has been the main immigration pathway. Almost all the provinces and territories (except Nunavut and Quebec) operate their own PNPs. Each has at least one immigration stream that is aligned with the Express Entry system. How enhanced PNPs work When a PNP is aligned with Express Entry, it is known as an enhanced PNP. In order to get an enhanced PNP, candidates first need to be eligible for one of the Express Entry-managed programs: Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), Canadian Experience Class (CEC), or the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP). If an Express Entry candidate meets the PNP’s eligibility criteria, the province may send them an invitation to apply for a provincial nomination. The nomination is not the same as an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent re...

Council of Canadian Innovators wants Canada to introduce a High Potential Tech Visa, to give in-demand professionals a pathway to permanent residency without a job offer in hand.   To help address labour shortages in the tech sector, the Council of Canadian Innovators is calling on the federal government to pilot a new visa that would allow high-skilled tech workers to come to Canada without a job offer. The CCI recently released its Talent and Skills Strategy, offering 13 key recommendations for policymakers to support Canada’s growing tech industry. The proposed visa, called the High Potential Tech Visa, would target in-demand professions like software developers and data scientists. It would allow holders to work, change jobs, and help them obtain Canadian permanent residency. In its report titled the  Talent and Skills Strategy , CCI noted that most people seeking work visas in Canada need a job offer to qualify. This requirement creates a barrier for highly skil...

British Columbia invited 422 immigration candidates in two  Provincial Nominee Program  (PNP) draws held on September 28, 2021. Since February, British Columbia has been conducting two separate rounds of invitations twice a month as part of its PNP program. Due to a high number of people registered in the BC PNP Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS) in certain occupations, B.C. has been holding an additional draw to balance the needs in all sectors of the provincial labour market. Candidates from the  Skills Immigration  (SI) and  Express Entry BC  (EEBC) streams of the  British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program  (BC PNP) received invitations in the general draw. An overview of Canada’s PNP immigration results for August 2021 . The following is the monthly summary of PNP activity across Canada. Canada’s Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP) issued over 3,400 invitations to apply for provincial nomination during the month of August. Nearly every Canadian province and territory, except Quebec and Nunavut, operates its own Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP). Having their own immigration programs allows provincial governments to select the most suitable people to meet their local labour market needs and to manage the regional settlement of the immigrant population within their jurisdiction. Each province adopts its own criteria for selecting foreign workers eligible for Canadian permanent residence under its respective PNP. Since its launch in 1998, the PNP has become the second most important route to permanent residence in Canada.  Between now and 2023, PNPs alone are expected to result in more than 80,000 immigrants per year being a...

Express Entry: CEC candidates need CRS of at least 403 to receive invitation in new draw Canada invited Express Entry candidates with Canadian work experience to apply for permanent residence. Canada invited 3,000 Express Entry candidates to apply for permanent residence on August 19. Invited candidates needed to be eligible for the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), with scores of at least 403. This is one point less than the previous CEC draw score cutoff. Candidates who had the minimum score were only included if they had submitted their profiles before August 01, 2021 at 10:13:57 UTC, as per the tie-break rule. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) publishes this detail as an administrative requirement, and it does not mean there was any actual tie. Why a CEC-only draw? So far in 2021, IRCC has only been drawing two types of candidates from the Express Entry pool: CEC and Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). There have been 16 draws of each typ...
